About Rozel
Rozel Hopkins
Senior Ecologist
Rozel is a Senior Ecologist with 4 years of industry experience. She joined the Ecology Co-op in January 2021 after graduating from an MSci Zoology degree at the University of Southampton and completing a survey season with another ecological consultancy. During her degree she became interested in bats through her master’s dissertation, which investigated how bats behave towards a new type of proposed ‘bat-friendly’ streetlight. Through her consultancy work, this batty interest has expanded to reptiles, amphibians, botany and birds.
One of Rozel’s main interests is Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and she has completed a variety of BNG-related projects for both developers and landowners. This includes for a 96ha site in West Sussex, comprising of a housing development and commercial buildings and an associated 103ha offsetting site of a traditional parkland, woodland and grassland habitat mosaic. She has created a number of Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans (HMMPs) and is passionate about designing habitat enhancements that work for both wildlife and landowners/homeowners.
Outside of work, Rozel’s interests include travelling, netball, kickboxing and baking.
